My newest OC.

Name: Diosma (Your simple elegance charms me)

Age: 20

Historical/Fictional: Fictional

Title: Red Fang of Kai

Fraction: Takeda/Date

Favorite color: Silver

Element: It’s not known if this is her true element but her attacks lead to fire

Clan: UNKNOWN – She’s in the Takeda now and doesn’t join Date until very much later

Future Pairing: Masamune Date

Choice of Weapon: ōdachi
(Additional INFO: I forgot to add, after reading more of the odachi I need to say this. Because the sword is freakin' long and stuff, Diosma doesn't carry it in its sheath. Because it's been constantly stained with blood it wasn't impossible to put it back into the sheath but because the blood soon became unremovable from the blade itself, Diosma thought it better to leave it out of its sheath for easy use in battle and the sword won't stain the inside of its sheath.)

Bio: Now a warrior of the Takeda clan, Diosma was once a wanderer from a small time village girl. She grew up poor before her 8th birthday where her family was killed and where she and her sisters were sold into slavery. She had to live with the shame of being a slave then to another collection to her first masters harem. When she was 13 ½, she killed her master at night while he was asleep.
She was found Shingen Takeda who, for reasons unknown to his retainers, took her in as his own, but unlike Shingen’s children, she would not gain any will or seat when he died. Diosma has a hard time being around men, she likes Shingen but refuses to let him or any other male touch her. Aside from being a warrior, she had to learn medical practices because she would not allow men to touch her. She bares small scars and bruises on her body still, though some are in healing.
Diosma gained her title through the battle field while fighting with the Takeda. Her weapon was always stained with the enemy’s blood that her blade never gleamed again.
Aside from being afraid of males, Diosma has a phobia of having any males look at her. (I’m talking about a stare that’s 5 minutes long at her; sorta like an understanding stare or a stare that looks like she’s not explaining something right)

Er, I don't think there's any weapon called an "odachi", but there are "NOdachi".

A nodachi is a long sword.

Actually, I've done a bit (a little reallyxD) research on the sword, cause I thought the same thing, and it turns out that, in visually retrospect, its the same kind of weapon that Sephiroth from Final Fantasy 7 wields!0.o

Yeee--esss, that's true, although FF7 isn't really historically accurate in terms of Japanese weaponry, haha.

That is true but I found pictures (though I know for a fact that they may not be real in the association use with a nodachi, an often mistake) of swords similar to the odachi.

A little something from Wiki:

Ōdachi that were used as weapons were too long for samurai to carry on their waists like normal swords. There were two methods in which they could be carried.

* One method was to carry it on one's back. However, this was seen as impractical as it was impossible for the wielder to draw it quickly.

* The other method was simply to carry the ōdachi by hand. The trend during the Muromachi era was for the samurai carrying the ōdachi to have a follower to help him draw it.

Ōdachi swordplay styles focused on downward cuts and different wields than those of normal swords.

The ōdachi's importance died off after the Siege of Osaka of 1615 (the final battle between Tokugawa Ieyasu and Toyotomi Hideyori). Since then it has been used more as a ceremonial piece.

Huh. Strange. I've never heard of these kinds of swords being used much--if they became ceremonial swords, or were a type that wasn't efficient on the battlefield, I can see why they weren't brought up that much.

The zanbato was one of those "really odd weapons", although it did have its use as a sword that could cut down a rider on horseback AND the horse at once.

Really? That sounds cool!=D
And I can understand why the Odachi is hardly ever used since, hey, what can you do with a large sword that would make ya have 2 people unsheathe it!xD
